Lauren Conrad Biography

Lauren Conrad successfully transitioned from reality television star in the 2000s to fashion and lifestyle mogul.

Who Is Lauren Conrad?
Lauren Conrad (born February 1, 1986) starred on the MTV reality series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and The Hills. In 2009 she left reality TV behind in order to focus on a career in fashion. She designs LC Lauren Conrad for the retailer Kohl's and has her own boutique line called Paper Crown. Conrad maintains an approachable, relatable image in her fashion, beauty and lifestyle posts on LaurenConrad.com, as well as her popular Instagram feed. She's also a New York Times-bestselling author. She married William Tell in 2014 and gave birth to son Liam in 2017.

Husband William Tell
Conrad married Something Corporate guitarist-turned-lawyer William Tell on September 13, 2014. The wedding took place at a vineyard in California. Lo Bosworth, Conrad's co-star from Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and The Hills, was one of the bridesmaids.

Lauren Conrad Biography
Conrad and Tell had their first date on Valentine's Day in 2012, after being set up by friends. The couple got engaged in October 2013, with Tell offering Conrad a diamond solitaire engagement ring.

Baby
Conrad and Tell became parents to Liam James Tell on July 5, 2017. She went into labor after her annual Fourth of July party.

Fashion and Lifestyle
Even during Conrad's reality TV days, her true dream was a career in fashion, an aspiration that dated from childhood. Though her first line — the Lauren Conrad Collection, which debuted in 2007 — was criticized for its high prices, Conrad went on to find success by partnering with the retailer Kohl's. She also helms the boutique label Paper Crown.

Kohl's
In 2009, Conrad began designing the LC Lauren Conrad line for Kohl's. Among its offerings are clothing (including limited collections of Disney-inspired items), jewelry, bedding, swimwear, accessories and shoes. Pregnancy inspired Conrad's creation of maternity pieces. In 2017, the line began to include plus sizes.

Conrad has presented collections from LC Lauren Conrad during New York Fashion Week.

Paper Crown
Paper Crown is a higher-end fashion line (Conrad's bridesmaids wore Paper Crown dresses at her wedding). A childhood friend of Conrad's runs the business.

The Little Market
In 2013 Conrad used her style know-how to help launch The Little Market, a website that aims to improve the lives of female artisans around the globe. The endeavor provides funding for the creation of handmade products and a place for these wares to be sold.

Conrad worked with Hannah Taylor Skvarla, a friend with a human rights background, to set up the site. The nonprofit is a Fair Trade Federation member; Conrad and Skvarla do not draw salaries.

When Was Lauren Conrad Born?
Lauren Conrad was born on February 1, 1986, in Laguna Beach, California.

Reality Television
Conrad was a breakout star in the early days of reality TV.

'Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County'
In 2004, an 18-year-old Conrad appeared on MTV's Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. The show, inspired by FOX's scripted series The O.C., was about the lives of real teenagers in the well-to-do community of Laguna Beach in California's Orange County.

Conrad, known as "L.C.," was a nice girl who didn't make waves. However, thanks in part to a love rivalry with Kristin Cavallari over a surfer, Conrad gained a following.

'The Hills'
After two seasons on Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, Conrad became a central character on The Hills from 2006 to 2009. The show followed her move to Los Angeles to study at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and her internship at Teen Vogue.

A memorable moment in the series came when Conrad turned down an internship in Paris so she could spend a summer with then-boyfriend Jason Wahler. (Conrad did travel to Paris the next season.) More drama arrived when Conrad believed former friend Heidi Montag and Montag's boyfriend Spencer Pratt had spread rumors about her having made a sex tape.

The Hills was a ratings hit for MTV; by the end of her time on the series, Conrad reportedly earned about $125,000 per episode. When Conrad left the show, she was replaced by Kristin Cavallari. The Hills ended in 2010.

During The Hills: That Was Then, This Is Now, a 10-year anniversary special in 2016, Conrad reflected on her experience: "While it was hard at times, it brought me to a place where I’m really happy and I get to do what I love and I feel really lucky. So, going back I would still do it again."

Other TV Appearances
After Conrad left The Hills, she tried to do a reality show about the launch of her fashion career. However, MTV decided not to proceed with the project as Conrad didn't want it to focus on her personal life.

Conrad voiced an animated version of herself on Family Guy in 2009. She also raised funds for charity with an appearance on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and served as a guest judge for America's Next Top Model.

Books
Conrad has written six novels, starting with L.A. Candy (2009), which topped the New York Times bestseller list. The L.A. Candy trilogy continued with Sweet Little Lies (2010) and Sugar and Spice (2010). The books are about a girl who moves to Los Angeles and gets tapped to star on reality TV.

The bad girl from L.A. Candy was spun off into another trilogy series: Fame Game (2012), Starstruck (2012) and Infamous (2013). Plus Conrad has authored the books Lauren Conrad Style (2012), Lauren Conrad Beauty (2012) and Lauren Conrad Celebrate (2016).

What Is Lauren Conrad's Net Worth?
In 2012, the Los Angeles Times stated Conrad's estimated net worth was $12 million.

Parents and Family
Conrad's parents are James (Jim), an architect, and Katherine (Kathy) Conrad. She grew up in Laguna Beach with two younger siblings: Breanna (who appeared on Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County after her sister) and Brandon.

Boyfriends
In addition to Jason Wahler, The Hills featured Conrad's relationship with Brody Jenner (though Conrad later revealed the pairing was played up by producers).

Conrad was also romantically involved with baseball player Doug Reinhardt, actor Kyle Howard and dancer and choreographer Derek Hough.
